In addition to our inventory of cures, tonics and elixirs, the Film Apothecary Shop walls are lined with columns of library catalog card drawers. Inside each one is a row of… well, catalog cards of course, on each card is a list.
Each list will include a ranking of some aspect of movie arcana. Don’t forget on future visits to our shop, to take a few moments, dig into the drawers and check to see if a new list card has been added to our inventory.
And now the inaugural list of the Film Apothecary shop
The Top 50 Moments in the Star Wars Saga…
Stay tuned each day for the next 50 days as we reveal 1 entry per day as we countdown from 50 to 1. This is not a list of the best scenes or the best action sequences or the best reveals or best one-liners. These are the 50 moments that elicited a primal response. These are 50 moments where I had one of those star wars “wonder” moments. Something that sent a chill down my spine, or made me laugh or tear up. A piece of music married to an image that made my heart soar, or a moment of dread.
And these are the 50 moments that made your favourite neighbourhood apothecary sit up and take notice. This does not pretend to be an objective list of the greatest moments from a historical perspective. These are just the 50 moments that made me fall in love with the star wars saga.
Without further adieu….
#50 – “It’s Beautiful” – Rogue One
Our heroes are on Jeddah, as the Empire orders the destruction of the city. Director Krennic gives the order and the Death Star unleashes its unparalleled destructive power. For Krennic, its an opportunity to impress his superiors. With cold, confidence, he doesn’t hesitate as he orders the death of tens of thousands of citizens.
We watch in horror and awe as the planet appears to be pulled apart at the seams…
And we then cut to the sterile star destroyer where Director Krennic, Governor Tarkin and Imperial officers watch the destruction from above the planet.
And as the mushroom cloud expands over the landscape, Krennic safely aboard the star destroyers whispers in a tone that shows even he is surprised, “Its beautiful”.
Chilling scene. Perfectly encapsulating the banal yet catastrophiv nature of Imperial evil and dominance.
